Utah high school athletes continue to burn it up on the gridiron, soccer fields, cross country courses and volleyball courts. In recognition of great performances in these fall sports, Coaches Aid.com compiles a weekly list of Utah’s best. We like to call it “the hot list”. Here are this week’s athletes that are tearing it up.
Football
Nik Allred, Ogden: The senior quarterback continues to post stellar numbers this season. Against Logan, Allred completed 22 of 32 passes for 429 yards and seven touchdowns. Allred’s big night tied a state record, as the Tigers improved to 5-0 on season.

Dylan Chynoweth, Park City: The Miners big play running back exploded for another huge night. Chynoweth had 15 carries for 241 yards and three touchdowns as the Miners ran over Manti 56-14.

Maka Unufe, Provo: After being away from football for two seasons, Unufe is turning heads in Utah County. Through five games the Bulldog receiver has scored 11 touchdowns. The 6-foot-1 playmaker with has four kick returns for touchdowns, five TD catches, and two interceptions returned for touchdowns.

Dallas Lloyd, Pleasant Grove: The Vikings quarterback torched West Jordan’s defense for 257 yards passing and had five touchdown passes. Pleasant Grove throttled the Jags 43-14 to remain undefeated on the season.

Braden Anderson, Bingham: The senior receiver proved to be the difference in Bingham’s 45-29 victory over Cottonwood. Anderson jump started the Miners with a second half kickoff return for a touchdown. The 99-yard return gave Bingham 24-14 led. In the fourth, Anderson put a capper on the night, when he scooped up a Colts’ fumble and scampered 70 yards to the Cottonwood 2-yard line, setting up the Miners final score of the night.

Soccer
Liz Christensen, Bingham: Since starting the season 1-4-1, Bingham has won six straight matches to take control of Region 3. Christensen has stepped up big for the Miners, scoring at least one goal per game over the team’s winning streak. Christensen also leads the Miners in scoring with nine goals on the season.

Baylee Nielsen, Maple Mountain: The Golden Eagles continue to fly under the radar, but not Nielsen. The Region 8 co-leaders haven’t lost in almost a month and Nielson is a big reason why. The teams leading scorer has split the posts half-a-dozen times this month, bringing her season total to eleven.

Hanna Marble, Bountiful: The Braves midfielder is fresh off a four-goal game against Tooele. Honorable mention goes to teammates Paige Hunt and Katerina Skedros; each had hat tricks against the Buffaloes, as Bountiful pounded Tooele 12-2. The Braves have won their last five matches and haven’t lost since falling to East 2-1 on Aug. 27th.

Volleyball
Mariah Katoa, Layton: The Lancers star had 17 kills and nine blocks as Layton dispatched Syracuse in four sets. Katoa has been red hot, helping the Lancers post big wins over Lone Peak and Brighton. Ranked third in the state, Layton is a team to watch, as the playoffs roll around.

Cross Country
Steve Morrin, Lone Peak: The sophomore from Lone Peak continues to have an outstanding cross country season. His latest victory came at the Wahsatch Rendezvous. Morrin crossed the finish line with a time 15:20.2, well ahead of Hillcrest’s Daniel Reich (15:35.8) and Cyprus runner Jamal Tongo (15:38.1). Morrin also won the Murray Invitational earlier this month.
