Coaches Aid: What contributed to your team’s win last year?
Brian Fluck: We had tremendous team speed. We had good offense and defense— they were good at clogging the holes. Experience from winning the past two years helped.
CA: What was it like for you and your team to win District XII championships last year?
BF: Tremendous—that was our number one goal to reach first, and then move to the next.
CA: How did your team react?
BF: They celebrated at first and then we refocused on the next goal…the state championships.
CA: What did you tell the team after losing, 35-34, the AA state championship game?
BF: One game doesn’t tell a whole season. We went in for a win and fell six inches short. I still think we are the best team.
CA: How is your team looking this year?
BF: We have seven returning defensive and four returning offensive players. I have high expectations.
CA: What are your goals this season?
BF: Keeping them healthy and focused—our three goals are to win the league, district, and state champions. Win one and move to the next.
CA: Who are your top players?
BF: Jake Zuzek, he is a division one player. Dante Dickens, he led the team last year in tackles.
CA: Who is your biggest competitor in the league?
BF: Archbishop Carroll.
CA: As of last year, the public league and Catholic league combined to make up District XII. How do you think the Catholic league compares to the public league?
BF: We have tremendous coaches across the board. I think there is tremendous talent all around.
